The Sahiwal breed of Zebu cattle is arguably the district's most famous export. Celebrated globally, this breed is considered one of the best dairy breeds in the tropics and sub-tropics.

What makes the Sahiwal cattle so remarkable is their exceptional resilience. They are highly resistant to tick-borne diseases, both internal and external parasites, and can endure extreme heat—qualities that have made them highly sought after internationally.

Due to their impressive milk yield and robust genetics, Sahiwal cattle have been exported to countries like Australia, Kenya, and various Caribbean nations, where they are crossbred with exotic breeds to create highly productive, heat-tolerant herds.

Sahiwal's geography is incredibly favorable for agriculture. Nestled between the Ravi and Sutlej rivers, the district boasts some of the most fertile lands in the Punjab province.

The region is a massive contributor to the national agricultural output. It is a major producer of essential crops such as wheat and cotton, which form the backbone of the local economy. In addition, the district yields high-quality tobacco, sugarcane, and various citrus fruits.
